Recognising the lack of learning opportunities for HR and Employment Relations specialists working in unionised organisations, Joe and I set up our development programme in 2022. Next week, our fourth cohort will complete the programme - meaning nearly 60 people from 10 organisations have joined us over the last two years.
We are proud of the programme we have developed. We tweak it each time, listening to feedback and updating our case studies and resources. We continue to focus on the current dynamic world of work, the range of strategic approaches to ER, how to build effective employee voice, how to build trust and genuine dialogue with employee and union representatives, dealing with conflict and the delicate process of rebuilding after a dispute.
We use different methods to suit those in the group from real cases to action learning sets to mentoring. We aim to create many opportunities to learn from others and enable everyone to build their own confidence, knowledge and skills.
Many of our delegates have since moved into bigger, more challenging HR and ER roles. Many have told us that we reignited their interest in this field - they continue to network and meet their mentor, exploring opportunities for more learning and understanding.
Joe and I learn all the time too. We have worked with a great group of companies who have supported this development programme from the outset and have put people on every cohort. Some are now looking for the next ER learning opportunity for their people. We are listening to what they need and aim to design a new programme enabling more more face to face time, more practice, more problem solving, action learning sets and more in-depth learning on key topics in the ER field.
If you are interested in the original development programme, we are considering running one more towards the end of the year. If you are interested in finding out more about the new programme and helping shape it, get in touch via LI or message via www.makeworkbetter.co.uk.
Our mission to keep building confidence, enthusiasm and capability in the world of employment relations continues!
